8th Grade

This is an older post I found from last year when I used to teach Culinary Arts and had 8th graders.
——–
Three of my 8th grade students did not finish their work and therefore I did not let them cook.
Two got mad about this.
They tried to leave the classroom.
—————————–
K: Can I go to the bathroom?
Mr. C: Do one question, and I will let you go. You haven’t done any work.
K: (pushes her stuff off the desk and pushes the desk.) Nah fuck that I’m leaving.
(she walks out the door)
As I’m writing her up, another students is cursing at another student and walks over to me.
R: How you going to write her up for not doing anything?
Mr. C: Mind your own business.
R: Don’t tell me what to do. You don’t tell us what to do. I’ll get the principal.
Mr. C: We can get the principal, and I’ll tell them how you’ve been acting.
R: I don’t give a shit about no principal.
Mr. C: Apparently.
K walks back in:
K: Don’t even try to write me up!
Mr. C: I did write you up.
K: Fuck you!
Mr. C: Okay.
K: Fuck you, fuck this school and fuck this work you just gave me. Fuck your skinny ass, ugly as hell.
Mr. C: Well I’m ugly, what can I do about it?
K: Fuck you.
Their Educational Assistant walks in and I explain the situation and they take them both to ISS.
K: Fuck this school (kicks a chair).
Mr. C: See you guys next time.

Hands On

The student that I had to press charges on came back to school this morning after being suspended for 5 days.
———————
(I walk in the door.)
Mr. C: Hey S.
S: I’m sorry Mr. C, you just got on my bad side.
Mr. C: It is alright S.
S: I won’t put my hands on a teacher again. I don’t want to go back to juvenile.
Mr. C: Good.
M: You got arrested?
S: Yeah Mr. C got me arrested.
Mr. C: No, that was actually over my head. That was the principal’s decision.
S: Oh. Well that cop was a bitch. I asked him to go get my hat and he didn’t.
Mr. C: I’m sure he had a lot of other things on his mind.

Lockdown

An email from my principal.
———
All students remain in classrooms with doors locked and blinds drawn.

The Police Department and the SWAT team are serving a warrant at a neighboring house.  Because we are not aware of the situation and have a report of police with drawn guns, we issued the lockdown alert as a precaution.  AT NO TIME were shots fired.  The Police Department came to the building and notified us that there was no need for lockdown at that our safety was not in jeopardy.

Thank you for your prompt response in helping our students to remain calm for this brief lockdown.

Open Containers

The principal made this announcement before letting the kids in the door this morning:

Staff, this morning we need to check any students with open containers. There has been a rumor that students have been drinking alcohol on the bus, so we need to check all open containers and cups they bring in.

Just give them a sniff when they come in this morning.
I will make an announcement and tell the kids not to bring open containers anymore.

Thank you.
